Herring Condemns Senator Dick Black's Comments Comparing Roe v. Wade to the Holocaust

brian
Democratic Party of Virginia Chair Charniele Herring released the following statement condemning Senator Dick Black's comments yesterday on the floor of the Senate comparing the Roe v. Wade to the Holocaust:

"Senator Dick Black's comments are outrageous and offensive to those who perished in one of the darkest periods of human history. Comparing such a tragedy to women exercising their constitutionally protected rights is appalling. This falls far short of the standard of conduct Virginians expect when they send legislators to Richmond to represent them.

VA Delegates and Senators to Cuccinelli: 'Virginia Deserves a Full Time Attorney General'

Ashley

Richmond, VA - Today Democratic members of the Virginia General Assembly delivered the letter below to Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli asking him to resign his office in order to ensure that Virginians have a full-time attorney general as he ramps up his campaign for Governor.

Gift Report Reveals Cuccinelli's Trip with Foster 'Aspirin between the Knees' Friess

brian

Richmond, VA - I wanted to make sure you saw the article below regarding Ken Cuccinelli's Statement of Financial interest, most notably that the bulk of the $8,946 in gifts he received last year were bestowed up on him by billionaire super-donor Foster Friess.

Friess, who was the chief financial backer of extreme Pennsylvania presidential candidate Rick Santorum's presidential campaign, is most famous for dismissing concerns about Republicans trying to block birth control coverage for women saying, "You know, back in my days, they used Bayer aspirin for contraception. The gals put it between their knees, and it wasn't that costly."

VA Democrats Applaud General Assembly on Confirmation of Tracy Thorne-Begland as General District Court Judge

Ashley

RICHMOND - This afternoon the General Assembly finally voted to confirm Virginia's first openly gay General District Court judge after a controversial battle during the 2012 Legislative Session over Tracy Thorne-Begland's sexual orientation.

"I applaud my colleagues in the House and Senate who voted in support of Tracy Thorne-Begland," said Delegate Charniele Herring. "Tracy's record speaks for itself. His years of service to our country as well as the Commonwealth should not go without notice. Virginians deserve the best and brightest on the bench regardless of sexual orientation."

Briefing: The Extreme Cuccinelli-Marshall Agenda

brian

Last week Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli made news when he suggested that opponents of the federal birth control coverage mandate should “go to jail” rather than follow the law of the land. Those comments may have been the highest profile example of Cuccinelli’s fixation with curtailing women’s access to reproductive rights, but they are far from the first.

From his time in the Virginia Senate through his tenure as Attorney General, Cuccinelli and his allies – most notably Delegate Bob Marshall – have waged a mult-front war on a woman’s right to make her own health care choices.

McDonnell's Request to Restore Voting Rights Not Loud Enough for House GOP

Ashley

"The House Republicans actions speak louder than words, instead of finding common ground on an issue like the restoration of voting rights they are working to make it harder to vote while they think no one is watching," said Del. Charniele Herring. "Keeping voting rights from people who have served their time and paid their debt to society is wrong, even Governor Bob McDonnell says we should pass this legislation.

Ashley

Richmond, VA - Democratic Party of Virginia Chair Charniele Herring released the following statement today responding to increasing rhetoric from Governor Bob McDonnell, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and Virginia Republicans suggesting arming Virginia teachers to keep schools safe:

Virginia Democrats React to Governor McDonnell's Budget Amendments

Ashley

Today, Virginia Democrats released the following statement in response to Governor McDonnell's proposed amendments to the state's biennial budget:

"As we continue to dig ourselves out of the worst economic period we've seen in decades, it is critical that we focus on a pragmatic approach to sustain Virginia's future as the best place to live, work and raise a family," said DPVA Chair Charniele Herring. "The Governor's budget fails to address some of the Commonwealth's core priorities. Raiding money from education to fund transportation not only fails to address the need for Virginia's roads and infrastructure but diverts much-needed funds away from Virginia students.

Cuccinelli's radical agenda may still draw Bolling Indy challenge

Ashley

Just weeks after Bolling took his name out of the hat for the GOP nomination for Governor he still can't seem to stomach Cuccinelli's extreme self-serving ideology as being the only choice to Virginia's conservatives.
