Why is Allen scared to talk about women's health?

Former Senator goes to ground instead of answering tough questions

As Republicans in Washington and Richmond continue to advance legislation that restricts women's access to contraceptive health care, former Senator George Allen seems to be going out of his way to avoid taking a position on those on pressing issues, some of which could come before him should he be re-elected to the U.S. Senate.

Embarrassing Day for Virginia

RICHMOND, VA -- Today, Virginia's Senate passed the "Ultrasound" bill, HB 462, which mandates an ultrasound for all women seeking an abortion.

"Today's vote continues the humiliating turn to which Virginia Republicans have subjected the people of this Commonwealth since they exerted control over our government this year," said DPVA Chairman Brian Moran. "Over the last few weeks Republicans in the General Assembly have made Virginia a national joke and today Senate Republicans delivered the punch line. No matter what Bob McDonnell and his cadre of fringe extremists think, the General Assembly has no business mandating a procedure on a woman, invasive or not."

Allen Puts Politics First as GOP Embarrasses Virginia

alan

As Governor Bob McDonnell and Virginia Republicans continue their work on legislation that would force medically unnecessary ultrasounds on Virginia women, former Senator George Allen has refused repeatedly to condemn the legislation or the broad Republican attack on women, voters and middle class Virginians.

"Mark Warner and Tim Kaine spent 8 years building Virginia's reputation for results-oriented government that puts people ahead of divisive ideology," said DPVA Chairman Brian Moran. "As Bob McDonnell and the Republicans trash that reputation with their extreme agenda, they are damaging Virginia's ability to compete with other states and bring new businesses and jobs here. George Allen owes Virginians an explanation as to why he has refused to urge his colleagues to drop these radical bills and get back to doing the work they were hired to do.

ICYMI: McDonnell's no good very bad week

Key Point: "If you think any politician wants to talk about "transvaginal ultrasounds," we've got some ocean-front property to sell you in Arizona. McDonnell, who initially favored the bill, made big news by changing his position this past week."

The Republican presidential candidates aren't the only ones having to deal with some uncomfortable social issues this days.

This week, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell - many insiders' choice to be the GOP's vice presidential nominee - had his own abortion tempest to deal with.

RICHMOND, VA --  Democratic Party of Virginia Chairman Brian Moran released the following statement today after
the Virginia Senate voted to effectively kill HB1, legislation that would define "personhood" at conception and could in turn outlaw all abortions and some forms of FDA-approved birth control.

"Over the past few weeks Virginians have sent a loud and clear message to Governor Bob McDonnell and Republicans about their extreme agenda, and today's vote in the Senate is a clear indication that they may finally be listening.

Hypocrisy Alert: Allen continues to spout 'nonsense' gas price attack

alan

Today, in an effort to distract from his own disastrous record on energy, George Allen again peddled his blame-game talking points that have been widely repudiated as "nonsense" and "rubbish." The facts are clear as day - whether George Allen likes it or not, America is producing significantly more oil natural gas, and refined petroleum than when he was in the Senate.

If Allen doesn't understand the problem or won't be honest with Virginians about what it is, how can they possibly trust him to be a part of the solution?

Why won't Allen take a stand on mandatory ultrasounds for VA women?

alan

As the Republican mandatory ultrasound bill passed the Virginia Senate committee today, coming one step closer to becomign a law, former Senator George Allen has yet to stand up against government intrusion at its worst and urge Republicans in the state legislature to put aside this divisive social legislation and return their focus to the economy.

Virginians might expect forcing medically unnecessary ultrasounds on women before they can undergo an abortion to fit perfectly with Allen's big government agenda, which also includes federal personhood legislation, but as of yesterday Allen has continued to duck and dodge questions about where he stands on this critical issue:

Child Abduction Survivor Alicia Kozakiewicz Asks Former Delegate's Help

Today Democratic Party of Virginia Chairman and former Virginia Delegate Brian Moran joined with Virginia child safety advocates in urging Governor Bob McDonnell and Republicans in the House of Delegates to restore funding they cut out of Virginia's Alicia's Law.

Moran, the original sponsor of the 2008 Alicia's Law, was asked by crime victim Alicia Kozakiewicz to help draw attention to Governor Bob McDonnell's attempt to raid the child rescue fund.

In Advance of Controversial Vote Overreacher-in-Chief Visits General Assembly Republicans

RICHMOND, VA: As Republicans in the Virginia General Assembly prepare to vote today on legislation that would force an invasive and medically unnecessary ultrasound on Virginia women seeking an abortion, they received a pep talk from Congressman Eric Cantor who knows a thing or two about using political power to push a radical agenda that has little to do with why Virginians elected him.

"Meeting with Eric Cantor may be the most appropriate way for Virginia Republicans to prepare to try and force invasive and medically unnecessary ultrasounds on Virginia women," said DPVA Executive Director David Mills. "If anyone understands taking power with a mandate to focus on jobs and ignoring it to pursue a divisive and distracting social agenda it's him.
