CALL TO CAUCUS
NOTICE OF MATHEWS COUNTY DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE CAUCUS
The Mathews County Democratic Committee hereby announces that it will hold an assembled caucus beginning at 9 AM on Saturday, March 27, 2010 in the Historic Courthouse in Mathews County, VA for the purpose of electing three delegates and two alternates from Mathews County to the 1st Congressional District Democratic Convention to be held on May 8 in Fredericksburg.
Doors to the caucus will open at 8:30 AM for check-in. Any person attending the caucus, shall sign a standard Caucus Declaration Form stating that he/she is a Democrat, is a registered voter in Mathews County, subscribes to the principles of the Democratic Party, does not intend to support any candidate who is opposed to a Democratic Nominee in the next ensuing election, and will not participate in the nominating process of any other political party.
Caucus Declaration Forms must be filled out at the caucus prior to the start time of 9 AM. Doors to the caucus will be closed at that time, and no person may complete a form or enter the caucus after that time with the exception of those in line at 9 AM. There is no charge for those wishing to attend and vote at the Caucus.
Absentee voting will be held on Friday, March 26 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at 494 Ridge Road, Foster, VA.
Any person wishing to seek election as a delegate must file a Certificate of Candidacy with Cynthia Burton-Shackelford, Chair of the Mathews County Democratic Committee at 494 Ridge Road, Foster, VA 23056 no later than 5:00 PM on Monday, March 22. No person who has failed to comply with the prefiling requirements may be considered for nomination.
Should the exact number of individuals file for the three delegate positions and the two alternate positions, those individuals shall be declared the delegates, and the Chair will cancel the caucus.
