JAMES CITY COUNTY CAUCUS (Local Party Event)
CAUCUS TO SELECT DELEGATES TO THE FIRST CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION
The James City County Democratic Committee hereby
announces that it will hold an assembled caucus beginning at 7 PM, Thursday, March 18, 2010, at the James City County Human Services Center at 5249 Olde Towne Road. The caucus will elect 19 delegates and 10 alternates to the First Congressional District Democratic Convention, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at the Walker-Grant Middle School, 100 Learning Lane
in Fredericksburg.
The purpose of the First Congressional District Democratic Convention
shall be to nominate a candidate to the U.S. House of Representatives
and to conduct such other business as may properly come before the
Convention.
1. Prefiling: Those persons wishing to have their names placed on the
ballot at the Caucus as a delegate or alternate must file a certificate of
candidacy with Ralph Bresler, Chair of the James City County Virginia
Democratic Committee, 3028 John Vaughan Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185 no later than 5:00 PM on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, by mail. Email me at Ralph.bresler@gmail.com and I will forward the certificate of candidacy. Forms must be in hand by the time and date specified
above. There will be no exception to this rule for any reason.
2. Voluntary Administrative Fee: There shall be a voluntary
administrative fee of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) for each person filing
for delegate or alternate, payable to the James City County Democratic
Committee. Payment of this fee is completely voluntary and is to cover
the costs of the caucus and the convention. No statement is required in
order to waive payment. There is no charge for those wishing to attend and vote at the caucus.
3. Caucus Cancellation: Our caucus will be cancelled if the number of
prefilers is equal to, or less than, the number to be elected. If that
should transpire, all those who prefiled will be considered elected.
4. Conduct of the Caucus: Doors to the caucus will open for check-in at 6:30 PM. Any person attending the caucus shall sign a standardized Caucus Participation Form stating that he or she is a Democrat; does not intend to support any candidate who is opposed to a Democratic Party nominee in the ensuing election; is not a member of any other political Party; has not participated and will not participate in the nominating process of any other Party for the 2010 general election; and is a registered voter and a resident in James City County, Virginia. These forms must be filled out before participating in the caucus. At 7 PM, the doors to the caucus will be closed and no person may participate in the caucus with the exception of those persons in line.
