Caroline County 1st District Caucus (Local Party Event)
The Caroline County Democratic Committee hereby announces that it will hold an unassembled caucus between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm on March 25, 2010 at the Bowling Green Library in Bowling Green, VA. The purpose of the caucus is to elect four delegates and two alternates to the 1st Congressional District Democratic Convention to be held on May 8, 2010 at Walker-Grant Middle School, 100 Learning Lane, Fredericksburg, VA 22401.
Any person wishing to seek election as a delegate to the 1st Congressional District Convention referenced above must file with Maggie Sacra, Chairperson of the Caroline County Democratic Committee, PO Box 390, Ruther Glen, VA 22546 no later than 5:00 p.m., Monday, March 22, 2010. Postmarks of March 22nd do not satisfy the time requirement. There shall be a voluntary administrative fee of twenty five dollars ($25) for each person filing for delegate, payable to the Caroline County Democratic Committee. The Delegate Filing Form and additional information is available at www.carolinedems.com. No person who has failed to comply with the filing requirements iterated above may be considered for nomination as a delegate.
There is no charge for those wishing to attend and vote at the caucus.
Doors to the caucus will open at 4:00 p.m. for check-in. Any person attending the caucus shall sign a standardized Caucus Participation Form before being allowed to participate in the caucus. The standardized Caucus Participation Form states that he or she is a Democrat, does not intend to support any candidate who is opposed to the Democratic nominee in the ensuing general election, believes in the principles of the Democratic Party, and is a registered voter in a precinct of Caroline County that is located in the 1st Congressional District (Bowling Green, Mattaponi 1st, Penola, Port Royal, and Woodford). Caucus Participation Forms must be completed at the caucus prior to participating in the caucus. The caucus shall conclude promptly at 8:00 pm at which time the doors will be closed and no person may complete a form or vote after that time with the exception of those in line at 8:00 pm.
Those wishing to vote at the caucus, but who are unable to attend, must return a Caucus Participation Form and an absentee ballot to Maggie Sacra, Chairperson of the Caroline County Democratic Committee, PO Box 390, Ruther Glen, VA 22546 no later than 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 25, 2010. Postmarks of March 25th do not satisfy the time requirement. Absentee ballots to choose delegates and alternates will be available on March 23rd. For absentee ballots, please go to www.carolinedems.com or contact Maggie Sacra, Chairperson, Caroline County Democratic Committee at (804) 448-4121.
If only one person files for each delegate position, the caucus will be cancelled. In this event the Chairperson will publicly announce the cancellation on www.carolinedems.com and other locations deemed sufficient, proclaim the individuals properly filed as the duly nominated delegates, and so advice those individuals.
