When in Doubt Just Add a Million
Richmond, VA - Virginia Republicans talk a lot about their party's newfound embrace of grassroots campaigning and the supposed strength of their voter contact operation. Just this afternoon the Republican Party of Virginia released a statement announcing it had contacted 3.5 million Virginians since April.
That number sounds impressive, but consider what Republican Victory Chairman Pete Snyder told Politico just two days ago:
"Pete Snyder, the chair of the joint Republican Victory operation, says Republicans have contacted 2.5 million people through a joint operation of the Romney campaign, the Republican National Committee and the state party."
That's a difference of one million voter contacts in about 48 hours.
It's possible of course that Snyder misspoke, just as it's also possible that the 3.5 million number was in the final report from RPV voter contact consultant Strategic Allied Consulting right before the Republicans terminated their $500,000 contact with the firm amidst allegations of voter fraud in other states.
