Moran: Kaine's Bipartisan Specifics Beat Allen's Backward Empty Rhetoric

10/18/2012

Richmond, VA - Democratic Party of Virginia Chairman Brian Moran released the following statement responding to the final U.S. Senate debate between Tim Kaine and George Allen tonight in Blacksburg:

"Tonight Virginians saw a debate based on two very different visions for our future.

"Tim Kaine laid out a clear, bipartisan plan to bring people together to avoid damaging sequestration cuts, create new jobs for Virginia families and balance our budget in a responsible way.

"His opponent George Allen still hasn't learned the lessons of his last term in the Senate, where he voted to add $3 trillion to the national debt and turn a huge surplus into a massive deficit by putting two wars, massive tax cuts for the rich and an important but expensive expansion of Medicare on the credit card. He spent a full sixty minutes reading from his old partisan playbook and avoiding specifics instead of offering any suggestions on how he could work with members of both parties.

"We can't afford to turn the keys back over to a former Senator who helped drive our economy into the ditch, particularly when he is so content to pick up right where he left off before Virginians fired him six years ago.

"Tim Kaine has a clear and specific vision to move our country forward, and the record of bringing people together it will take to get the job done. That's what we need in the Senate, not six more years of empty rhetoric, busted budgets and partisan attacks."
