DPVA Chairman Moran Statement Commemorating September 11th Anniversary
"On the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks against our country and our Commonwealth, we mourn with the families of the innocent men, women, and children who lost their lives in New York City, Pennsylvania, and here in Virginia. Our thoughts and prayers remain with those families and every American who experienced the horror of that Tuesday morning in September, 2001.
"This is a day to honor the brave sacrifice of the first responders who rushed into burning buildings to bring others to safety and who gave their lives in the line of duty. The police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and ordinary citizens who responded to these horrific attacks are American heroes, as are the millions of their brothers and sisters who continue to protect and serve our communities day and night.
"Today we also thank and honor the heroic servicemen and women who defend our freedoms abroad, and their families. Thousands of these courageous men and women have paid the ultimate price, with many thousands more returning home wounded. We have no greater shared responsibility than to properly equip our troops in the field, care for them when they return, and provide for the families of those who give their lives in the defense of our great nation.
