Allen Should Condemn Republican Obstructionism on Veterans' Jobs Bill
Richmond, VA - Democratic Party of Virginia Chairman Brian Moran released the following statement today urging former Senator George Allen to stand up for men and women who serve and condemn Senate Republicans for playing politics with legislation that will create jobs for veterans:
"Republicans in the U.S. Senate had an opportunity yesterday to prove that, despite the radical right turn their party has taken in recent years, some things are still above partisan politics. Instead they chose to send a message to men and women who fight for our nation that nothing is more important than standing in the way of President Obama's agenda, not even jobs for veterans.
"While Republicans in Washington turn their backs on veterans who are looking for work, the question remains whether their colleagues like former Senator George Allen will continue to sit on the sidelines, or condemn the rampant obstructionism that is hurting men and women who serve.
"The last thing veterans, Virginians or anyone needs is another Republican Senator who thinks politics are more important than putting people, particularly those who serve, back to work. After repeatedly voting against funding for veterans' health care, mental health and incentives for hiring homeless veterans during his term in the Senate, it's time for George Allen tell Virginians where he stands on Republicans playing politics with unemployed American heroes."
