VIRGINIA REPUBLICANS: PARTY OF "NO"
NO VISION, NO PLAN AND NO COMMITMENT TO SOLVING VIRGINIA'S TRANSPORTATION PROBLEMS
Richmond- As Gov. Tim Kaine kicks off a tour of the Commonwealth to talk to Virginia commuters about ideas for meeting the state's dire transportation needs, Republican leaders have launched another round of hyper-partisan political attacks that are heavy on rhetoric but light on solutions. Republican gubernatorial hopeful Bob McDonnell issued a nine paragraph attack criticizing the Governor's efforts to solve our transportation problems and keep our roads and bridges safe. Yet, McDonnell acknowledges that he himself has no "particular plan or vision" for how we meet the state's transportation needs. [Richmond Times-Dispatch, 3/26/08]
House Majority Leader H. Morgan Griffith (R-Salem) refused to even show up to a meeting to discuss the issue last month, pronouncing any plan "dead on arrival." [Washington Post, 4/25/08]
Griffith has even stated the entire transportation crisis is "created out of thin air." [Examiner, 4/4/08]
"Republicans in Richmond are so committed to partisan rhetoric, they can't even see their way to admitting we have a real transportation problem in this state," said Democratic Party of Virginia Executive Director, Levar Stoney. "Meanwhile every day we have Virginians sitting in traffic jams, trying to get to and from work. Republican partisans are responsible for roadblocks in Richmond and, increasingly, roadblocks on our highways."
