Virginia Democrats: McCain Said 'No' to NoVa Transportation Solutions

RICHMOND - Democratic Party of Virginia Executive Director Levar Stoney released the following statement Friday on John McCain's vote this week against much-needed funding for the Metro system.

"John McCain has been in Washington for 26 years, but he still just doesn't get what matters to his neighbors in Northern Virginia. Faced with transportation and energy crises, Virginians need real leadership and full funding for a Metro system that takes cars off our congested roads, not a politician with a proven record of opposing sensible solutions for Virginia families.

"This week, John McCain said 'no' on a critical issue for Northern Virginia families who spend hours a day stuck in traffic and on crowded Metro cars.

"McCain likes to bill himself as a maverick. But when Republicans like Tom Davis and John Warner worked with Democrats to help keep Metro running, John McCain stood with the small minority of partisan Republican holdouts against the bill.

"Just like the Richmond Republicans, John McCain would rather play political games than work out a solution for Virginia families. If John McCain wants Virginians' votes, he owes us an explanation of why he voted against transportation solutions."
