1964

Why does the year 1964 standout?
Among the events that year:
The Beatles rose to the top of the charts and arrived in the United States for the first time.
After years of struggle, the Civil Rights Act was finally signed into law.
A young Cassius Clay beat Sonny Liston.
Civil rights activists Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman, and James Chaney, were murdered near Philadelphia, MS.
Fannie Lou Hamer, civil rights activist and Vice Chair of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, addressed the Credentials Committee of the Democratic National Convention, challenging the all-white Mississippi delegation.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, Norway.
And for folks engrossed in Presidential Politics,…
1964 was the last year that Virginia voters delivered its Electoral Votes to a Democratic Nominee for President.

2008 is our opportunity to change that. Over the past 7 years, Gov. Mark Warner, Gov. Tim Kaine and Sen. Jim Webb have all proven that a Democrat can win statewide in Virginia!
They couldn’t have done it without strong support from Democratic activists. We can win in 2008 in the Presidential, Senate and Congressional races because of great candidates, a platform that resonates with all Virginians and most importantly, because the grassroots and netroots work to make it so!
I look forward to seeing you during the Annual Jefferson-Jackson in Richmond during the weekend of February 8th and 9th. I hope to run into you at the many events happening across the Commonwealth, especially in Northern Virginia!
Please check the Calendar for the many events including trainings, campaign gatherings and Democratic meetings happening in your part of the Commonwealth!
2008 is shaping up to be an exciting year and it’ll be more so, if you’re involved and participating!

2008 is shaping up to be the Year of the Delegate. Real actual citizens selecting our leadership! It’s a dizzying prospect.
