Michelle Obama to Host Roundtable Discussion with Military Spouses in Norfolk
Obama to meet with Norfolk residents to discuss the unique challenges facing military spouses and their families

Chicago, IL - Senator Barack Obama's campaign announced today that Michelle Obama will make her first visit to Virginia this week, stopping in Norfolk to continue her roundtable discussion series with military spouses. On Wednesday, Obama will meet with military spouses from the community to hear their stories, and discuss the unique challenges they face, juggling career and family responsibilities, with the added burden of having a spouse serving in the military.   Mrs. Obama will also discuss how her husband, Democratic Presidential Nominee Barack Obama, plans to support military spouses and their families.

Throughout the primary, Mrs. Obama held roundtable discussions with working women across the country to discuss women's issues, including work / family balance, and has recently continued that conversation with military spouses. She held her first roundtable discussions with military spouses in Fort Bragg, North Carolina and Hopkinsville, Kentucky last May.   "When our troops go to war, an entire family goes to war with them. As a working woman, I understand the juggling act that many women face each day, dealing with the responsibilities of family and career - and I also understand that there is an added burden when one spouse is away.  Through these roundtable discussions, I want to provide a voice and a national platform for an often unnoticed group of men and women whose families are serving our country each day," Michelle Obama said.   In conjunction with the roundtable, the campaign will launch "Blue Star Families for Obama," a national military families council that will advise both Senator and Mrs. Obama on issues facing military families, and coordinate with the campaign in planning events with military families around the country.   Michelle Obama will be joined Wednesday by Vietnam War veteran, former President of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, Captain Paul Bucha.
