Food and Politics: Lefties at Lefty’s

Posted by Brandon on Thursday, March 06

This week I joined the Montgomery County Democratic Committee for their monthly dinner, Lefties at Lefty’s.  The gathering is held at Lefty’s Main Street Grille in Blacksburg, a restaurant decorated with the portraits of left-handed actors, athletes, and politicians.

Combining food and politics is a guaranteed way to attract a crowd.  For many, the casual atmosphere at Lefty’s provides a great opportunity to invite new friends and neighbors to participate in their first political event.

The discussion at Lefty’s always centers on the latest political happenings.  This month the main topic was the news from the Presidential Primaries.  By the time desert arrived (home-made crème brulee) plans were underway to organize for the upcoming campaigns as I briefed those in attendance on the Democratic Party’s new Neighborhood Volunteer Program, which you can read about at: http://www.vademocrats.org/page/s/nlsignup.

Many other committee’s have regular meetings that combine food and politics: Bristol, Carroll, Grayson, and Smyth to name a few.  For those of you in the New River Valley, you’re invited to come join your Democratic neighbors the first Wednesday of each month at 5:30 for Lefties at Lefty’s.

Brandon, as always, we were delighted to have you with us.  You failed to mention that the discussion also included our unanimous endorsement of the great job you are doing!

As Montgomery County Democratic Party Chair, I also want to formalize the invitation Brandon has extended.  Whether you live in the NRV or not, please join us the first Wednesday of any month at Lefty’s for an evening of politics and good food.
