Enthusiasm Among Virginia Voters Continues to Build
as Focus Turns to 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver 

Local Members of the Media Encouraged to Apply for Convention Press Credentials in Advance of April 15 Deadline

Richmond - In line with record turnout and unprecedented grassroots enthusiasm surrounding the Democratic race in Virginia, focus on the 2008 Democratic National Convention - to be held in Denver from August 25 -28, 2008 - is also on the rise.

More than 986-thousand people voted in Virginia's Democratic primary, a record turnout for a primary election here in the Commonwealth and twice the number of people who voted in the Republican primary.

"The historic level of interest and enthusiasm we've seen here in Virginia is consistent with what our Party is experiencing all over the country," said Democratic Party of Virginia Executive Director, Levar Stoney. "The message is clear - voters are energized and ready to work hard to put a Democrat in the White House. The 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver will be Virginia's opportunity to showcase our commitment to that effort and help put our nominee on the path to victory in November."

The 2008 Democratic National Convention is expected to pump an estimated $160 million into the Denver area's economy and draw approximately 35,000 visitors to the region, including 15,000 members of the media.

To ensure the Commonwealth is well represented in Denver, the DPVA is encouraging members of the media interested in covering the 2008 Democratic National Convention to apply now for press credentials to the event.
